  My Experience with "GLAG22: Reaching Out"

    My time as a member of the Penn State GOALS team has provided me with so many opportunities to network and gain experiences throughout the global agriculture community. One of my favorite experiences among this community is gaining a full access pass to the Global Learning in Agriculture (GLAG) Conference. This year’s theme for GLAG22 is “Reaching Out” and the main goal of the conference is to provide educators and future educators with opportunities to engage with other educators and leaders around the world on topics relating to food security and topics related to global learning in agriculture. I have had to much fun being able to "reach out" in this global agriculture community and I am so excited to share my experience with all of you!

    One of the most exciting things about GLAG22 is the GLAG Box! This box contains so many amazing resources and learning materials from the amazing sponsors of the GLAG22 conference. In this box, I also found a wonderful surprise - snacks from all around the world! These snacks included: Salty Liquorice Candies from the Netherlands, Hot Chili Fruit Gummies from Pakistan, Cheese Corn Puff Balls from Indonesia, and so much more! This box was a great reminder of all the resources that are out there that we can use to connect our classrooms to global agriculture!

My GLAG22 Experience!

    “GLAG22: Reaching Out” officially launched on February 7th, 2022. Since the official launch of GLAG22, it has been amazing to see how we can reach out and interact with individuals from different agricultural backgrounds from all over the world. This has been done through various community discussion boards and virtual meetups of individuals from all across the globe. In fact, there are so many opportunities to engage throughout this conference that I am still exploring the platform and finding new ways everyday! My favorite aspect of these communication channels is the opportunity to start conversations and collect resources from other educators.  GLAG22 has opened my eyes to the many ways that we, as educators, can approach conversations and lessons on global agriculture without future students.  

    This week has also been filled with three launch week sessions focusing around the ideas “Celebrating Innovation”, “Driving Energy”, and “Growing Capacity”. Each of these sessions featured amazing speakers and provided me the opportunity to learn about agriculture in other areas of the world and how I can make an impact. An exciting thing to note about these sessions is that they each launched at 4:00 pm, however, each launch session was set in a different time zone! The GLAG team did this to emphasize that fact that GLAG22 is a global conference that is made accessible from anywhere in the world!

What happens throughout the rest of the year?

    One of the most excited part about GLAG22 is that instead of arranging all of the amazing resources and materials that are available to us into a week long conference, the GLAG team has decided to spread all of these amazing resources out so that we are experiences GLAG throughout the rest of 2022. As we continue throughout the rest of 2022, we will have the opportunity to access more content relating to global agriculture and various supplemental programs associated with GLAG22. These supplemental programs include GLAGread, GLAGcreates, and GLAGjr. While I am still learning about these supplemental programs, I am so excited to be able to participate in them and gain resources and knowledge that I can take into my future classroom!
